architecture, urban design, planning
SODIC envisioned a mixed-use community that would cater to the more modern lifestyle of Egypt’s emerging middle class. The development is located 30 KM west of Cairo in the newly established Sheikh Zayed City.
The Allegria project is a golf course community of villas and townhouses surrounding a Greg Norman signature golf course, a new country club and golf clubhouse. Michael Graves and Arquitectonica among others were hired by the client to design a series of modern villas for the project.
The entire project covers 331 hectares and will include a new business park, the British International School, two strip malls and a mixed-use retail area that will become the core of a new retail, entertainment and apartment community.
The residential open space design relies on xerophytic plantings to reduce water usage within the site.
