Easton, PA Comprehensive Plan Update

Urban Matrix was commissioned by the City of Easton to develop a new comprehensive plan for the entire city. The city is situated at the intersection of the Lehigh and Delaware Rivers in a setting that is both beautiful and historic. Easton’s downtown is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and sits at the center of the Delaware and Lehigh National Heritage Corridor. With a population of over 28,000 in an area of only 4.36 square miles, Easton has an urban density greater than any city in the Lehigh Valley.

The Comprehensive Plan addressed issues associated with the city’s future growth in ways that strengthened the character and quality of the individual neighborhoods, protected the city’s historical assets, and promoted community cohesiveness, accessibility and connectivity throughout the city. The plan also considered the future growth and development of the historic downtown, particularly with regard to new housing, parking and access, land use and development, environmental stewardship, parks and open spaces and establishing a vibrant center for the arts, culture and tourism.

Urban Matrix created a website to facilitate the community outreach effort. ‘Vision Easton’ was used to gather comments and input from the community, publish new documents and materials as these were completed to generally provide a setting to help educate the citizens about the future vision of the city. The Comprehensive Plan Update was adopted in 2017.
